Keep getting an error that wont let me connect to the VPN, and even with help from support i was not able to fix it. Seems it is a common bug as i found alot of different "fixes". Sadly none of them worked for me.
No longer works without desktop NordVPN app installed no matter which browser. Get "We couldn’t connect you to the VPN. Please try again later.". I don't want to have the app installed because extra network adapters cause me a nightmare with my VM that use VPNs. The error message "We couldn’t connect you to the VPN. Please try again later." is diabolically useless. Three browsers, Firefox, Chrome, and Edge, browser extension does not work on any of them unless I have the app installed. I also don't want all of this protection nonsense, I don't want NordVPN verifying my links. Enshitification.

Why is the Chrome extension not synched with the NordVPN Windows desktop app? One says I'm logged in to my dedicated IP, while the other says I'm not connected. So I need to log in and log out to my dedicated IP on both?
I have been a loyal NordVPN user for 2 years on a yearly subscription, but the last 4 months have been an absolute nightmare. I am writing this to highlight a critical failure in both your software and your technical support. 1. The Chrome Extension Handshake Issue: My primary requirement is the Chrome Extension. For 4 months, it has consistently failed with the error: "Couldn't connect, try Windows app." Your support team keeps claiming my "country is restricted," which is a blatant excuse. I have used this exact service in the same location for 24 months without a single issue. This is clearly a Protocol Handshake or API Authentication failure within the extension itself, not a regional block. 2. The Windows App is Unusable Bloatware: Following support's advice, I installed the Windows app, and it is a disaster: Extreme Latency: The app takes 20 minutes to launch and another 30 minutes just to load the login page. Connection Timeouts: It takes over 30 minutes to establish a single UK IP connection. System Instability: The app crashes constantly and triggers a persistent network kill-switch that cuts off my internet entirely upon PC startup. Reinstallation Loop: I am forced to uninstall and clean-install the app every single time I want to connect. This is not a "solution"; it is a broken product. 3. Incompetent Support Experience: The support staff I interacted with seemed technically illiterate regarding these specific bugs. Instead of escalating the issue to Tier 2 engineers to look at the extension's connectivity logs, they simply blamed my ISP/Country. I have wasted 4 months of my paid subscription on a service that doesn't function. My Demand: I do not want to use your broken Windows app. I paid for the freedom to use the Chrome Extension. I want a technical resolution for the extension's connectivity or a formal explanation as to why a 2-year functional service suddenly "restricted" my account while still taking my subscription money. I have already performed a clean wipe of app data, flushed DNS, and tested on multiple browsers (Chrome/Edge). The issue persists across all. Please check if there is a MTU size conflict or a Handshake Timeout specifically affecting the extension's proxy protocol in my region that was updated 4 months ago.
Worst VPN. only connects to few locations. Rest locations are unable to connect.

This Brave Extension unlike the dedicated Nord App, does not allow you to select specific Server Numbers. This is a problem as my Firewall blocks all traffic other than the IP's (selected server numbers) I have added. In extensions always fails to connect. I don't want to have to use the App for Ad-Hoc VPN Web Browser checks, takes too long to load nor need whole PC behind VPN. Please add the capability to choose preferred Server numbers and then this APP would be great. Surfshark works fine.
This is the shittiest vpn service I ever came across. Everytime I try to use the VPN it is start giving me this "We couldn’t connect you to the VPN. If this keeps happening, try using the NordVPN app. Download app" Why I have to install the desktop app?? I have tried once than it start creating problems for my internet, kept on disconnecting and I have to restart every time I logged in the PC.
"Connect to the fastest VPN out there — NordVPN. " Nope, not even close. I tried ExpressVPN and was disappointed when my 2016 Mbps whet to 1760, so I got NordVPN b/c I read from Kim Komando is was the fastest one around. The speed slowed me down by almost half ; 1174 Mbps. I'll try to get an answer from Nord, but as of now. Not happy.
I bought the paid plan, but it’s still the worst VPN. Most of the time it doesn’t connect even after many attempts. When it does connect by chance, it often shows ‘no internet.’ I uninstalled and reinstalled it, but nothing changed. Seriously disappointing.

Doesn't do anything, just keeps redirecting through Google logins but doesn't get you logged in.
This thing does NOT work.. it STILL uses vpn when "excluding" certain websites. I added a website that checks your ip to the excluded url lists and it is still showing the ip that the VPN is using.

I was logged out, and after the re-login I've lost ALL the excluded sites. Unacceptable for paid service.
Ok, sorry for a bad review but this is ridiculous. I cannot even launch the browser extension or PC version because I need to create an account and log into it and for that I need a working VPN for my browser/PC because NordVPN is banned in Russia (as many other VPNs), so I'm trapped in a loop where I cannot even log into the account, I cannot use anything. I do believe this app is good and it probably can work in my country, it's just very frustrating to jump through hoops nonstop.

To get access to the vpn you need to sign in on the website. But the site is blocked and i can't access without vpn.

I have to remember to leave the pop-up open every time I shut down my Chromebook otherwise, on top of waiting 5 minutes for it to actually become connected (which... doesn't that even defeat the whole purpose??), I even have to look for the Nord VPN window and open it. Overall extremely unhappy with the product - takes forever to become active, does not seem to automatically connect, and the ad protection keeps malfunctioning. Do not recommend it and will not renew my subscription.
Been a loyal Nord user for 5 years and as of today it no longer works. I am directed to do LOTS of things I know nothing about. I currently have several months left on my already paid for subscription and am NOW locked out of using my account and cannot even find a way to cancel my remaining account OR to get anyy meaningful assistance fromm anywhere on the NORD site. It has always been a useful program but as of (apparently now useless software). SOMEONE should be available to make it work or get it off of my computer.

I have a problem with you always defaulting to Omaha as the connected server...Nebraska has some of the worst laws for freedom when it comes to the internet and access to information on the web. STOP.
Worked well until July 2025 or something around that time. Desktop app works well still. Now extension produces the error "We’re having trouble logging you in. Please try again." after I try to log in via Google. Bummer!
We can't use it for free. and we can't get to know that before making an account. So it's very dumb way of misguiding people.

Guys, what's going on with the browser extension? I can log in without any problems, but when I select a location, the connection fails. I don't need a refund, I just want this thing to work, damn! Please forward this message to the people responsible for support. Thanks!
Very Disappointing Experience I’ve had a very bad experience with this app. I tried it across multiple platforms — Mac Mini, iOS mobile app, and Fedora — and encountered the same issues. The app and even the Chrome extension frequently freeze. It randomly logs me out. When I try to log back in, I get stuck on the login/sign-up screen — it doesn’t even redirect me properly. Eventually, I had to use a Turkish VPN server to access the app. Even then, it took around 15 minutes to connect, and the connection was extremely slow. I checked my internet — it’s fast and stable unless I’m connected to NordVPN or forced to choose another country, which defeats the purpose if I need a Turkish location. Summary: This has been a frustrating experience. I do not recommend buying this app. Worst of all, there’s no option for a refund — you pay money and get nothing in return.

It pasted “Customer service email: now@freebeat.ai” into the knowledge panel for theresanaiforthat.com - a company that has nothing to do with Freebeat or NordVPN. ▸ Misleads users: The injected email looks native to Google’s UI, so you’d never know it was fabricated. ▸ Security nightmare: Encourages people to send private queries to a random domain—perfect phishing bait. ▸ Scope creep: A VPN tool should never touch the DOM of unrelated websites. This violates Chrome Web Store policy and basic user trust. If you value accurate information and a VPN that sticks to networking instead of masquerading as Google, avoid this extension like the plague. Uninstalled and switching providers.

As very first sentence in description should be mentioning its SUBSCRIPTION BASED ONLY, no free plans. Wasted few minutes of m life on this. Well.. should have expected this, since pushing ads so hard at youtube creators meaning product is non-competitive without it.

I have the nordVPN app installed. I do not want or need this extension in my browser. The nordVPN app repeatedly forces an install of this extension without asking me. Every time I remove it, a few days later it gets reinstalled. I can find no option in the app to prevent this. Reported.
Had a bundle and had to reset my account from data issue with nordpass, doing so also deleted my nordvpn account and my fully paid year bundle.

When I launch my browser every single time I receive entrance prompt. User name and password is required for the proxy server. it never remembers my credentials so when i start chrome i press 2-3 times Cancel to remove the annoying prompt
Keeps kicking me off spectrum enternet and then i have to reconnect my enternet. and disconnect nord vpn so i can use the enternet. don`t know if this extenion will work.
