Description

At DuckDuckGo, we believe the best way to protect your personal information from hackers, scammers, and privacy-invasive companies is to stop it from being collected at all. That's why millions of people choose DuckDuckGo over other browser extensions to protect their searching and browsing. Our built-in search engine is like Google but never tracks your searches. And our browsing protections, such as ad tracker blocking and cookie blocking, help stop other companies from collecting your data. Oh, and our browser extension is free — we make money from privacy-respecting search ads, not by exploiting your data. Take back control of your personal information with the browser extension designed for data protection. FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS Protect Your Searches by Default: Install the extension and we’ll set your default search engine and homepage to DuckDuckGo Search, so you can easily search online without being tracked.  Shield Your Browsing History: Our 3rd-Party Tracker Loading Protection blocks most trackers before they load, greatly exceeding what the browser offers by default.  Secure Your Email (Optional): Use Email Protection to block most email trackers and hide your existing email address with @duck.com addresses.   Automatically Enforce Encryption: Shield your data from network and Wi-Fi snoopers by forcing many sites to use an HTTPS connection.  Escape Fingerprinting: Make it harder for companies to create a unique identifier for you by blocking attempts to combine info about your browser and device.  Block Tracking Cookies: prevents most 3rd-party cookies from tracking you as you browse from site to site. Chrome’s Tracking Tech Protection — stops Google from using your browser to collect and auction off your personal data with their latest advertising trackers and targeting (“Protected Audience API” and “Topics API”). We feature many protections not available on most browsers and extensions, even in private browsing mode, including protection from link tracking, Global Privacy Control, and more. You don't need to wait to take control of your personal information! Join the millions of people using DuckDuckGo to protect their everyday searching, browsing, and emailing. Makes DDG the default search engine and prevent change, free email aliases are not worth the pain this extension inflicts.

I do like the fact & idea of using the DuckDuckGo Email Privacy Protection for using & generating Disposable Email Address Domains to protect my real Email Address from Scammers, Spammers & Websites/Companies who I don't particularly trust with my real Email Domain Address being stored in their Servers for my Customer Accounts with them. However, what I have noticed & have been realizing when I send a Website or Company an Email from any of my free generated @duck.com Email Alias Domains that are connected/linked up to my real Email Address Domain, is that they are not properly being delivered/received by any Websites or Companies in their (Inbox) Folder for reading!! Instead, they are all being automatically considered (SPAM) & are being delivered only to Websites & Companies (SPAM) Folder where they are not being seen or read by those Recipients due to fact of that... This is occurring due to the Emails or Reply's from us automatically being considered (SPAM) & then delivered to only to the (SPAM) Email Folders of the Emailed Recipients of Websites/Companies who we send Emails or Reply's to and are therefore, not being delivered correctly or properly to their (Inbox) Folder for reading. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Websites/Companies on the Internet who are checking their Email Accounts for Order related Emails, Customer Questions, Complaints, Inquires, etc. do not usually go through or read Email Messages that are received in their (SPAM) Email Folders for messages that have automatically been considered (SPAM) & placed in their (SPAM) Email Folder by their Email Servers. This is a big issue with the DuckDuckGo Email Privacy Protection Feature as I am finding out & realizing. It's not a good thing & is a big nuisance problem, which is why I am bringing it up here with this long & detailed 1-Star Review to make it clear to everyone who is not aware of this? This clearly has to do with, how the layout of the Duck.com generated Emails are created for us by the DuckDuckGo Servers being, that they all contain at least (2) Minus or Hyphen Symbols in them before the @duck.com instead of just being in a regular random generated @duck.com Email format without any Special Keyboard Characters/Symbols being added or included in their free Private/Disposable Email Address Domains that they generate for us their Customers/Users. This really needs to be more addressed, fixed very soon, & well looked into by the DuckDuckGo Technical Support Team for DuckDuckGo Customers/Users...

It doesn't seem to work anymore. Regular duckduckgo shortcut still does work however. Clicking on the extension produces only a blank box.

It forces you to use duck duck go as default search engine

Installing the extension changed nothing.

Don't like how you can't set it to not control your start page, home page, and search. They need to add more customization options for this.

the extension is greyed out, opening the popup displays nothing and accessing options menu won't let you change anything. tried with both Edge and Chrome store versions. Clearing data won't do it. Latest Edge beta.

Generate Private Duck Address - broken, same address all the time. There is no sense in any other feature.

Compromised. They were working independently and now Google owns them, like everything else. It is no longer private. Connected to Google. Google collecting data from duckduckgo searches...Still sharing!

I want to use DuckDuckGo as my mailbox, but to do so, I have to install an extension. The extension prevents me from using Google Search as I'm accustomed to. I'm not concerned about privacy, and there's no option to set Google as the default search engine. Oh my goodness, this is frustrating

Garbage. I installed the extension on my Chromebook, and Google remained the default search engine. I went to change it to DDG, and DDG was not an option; just Bing, Yahoo!, and Google. I typed in a search phrase int he toolbar, Google remained the default search engine. I highlighted a word, DDG was not one of the options, just Google. A total waste of time

Useless when there is no fireproof button. I keep getting logged out of sites because of this and it's very frustrating! Why does it not have this option like it does on Android!? I know I can save login details using Google Password Manager, but you know that for sites like WhatsApp, that doesn't work!!! The only other way is to list it as an unprotected site, but I don't want it unprotected, I just want to STAY LOGGED IN!!!

Overwrites Standard Search Engine and does not let me change it. I do want to be able to switch and choose.

Stop hijacking my New Tab page. It now loads slowly, and it sucks.

It enforced me to use everything duckduckgo, and even after uninstalling it, I still get the searchs done on DDG, wtfffffffffffffff, so much for privacy, but they invade you in a different way.

DDG extension is worse an enforcer than Google Chrome when it comes to its own search engine and forcing it down my throat as my new default search engine without allowing me to choose another and use it as an alternative. Thanks, but no thanks, I'll stick with Google Gestapo then, at least I can define shortcuts in Chrome for other web search engines / sites by simply typing e.g. "duck" in the adressbar, enter, followed by search tags, enter, et voilà, searched by DDG without it forcing itself to the fore. This extension is utterly moot if it thinks I'm too stupid to manage my own search engines myself and this thing has to manage my browser SE for me by putting shackles on the user! It's like choosing the plague over cholera (two words, one finger).

Yes it's private but it's also very annoying.

It forces the DuckDuckGo Search Engine onto you. You cannot change it unless you remove the extension. What a waste. Could have actually been a good extension. Google is better for general searches, DuckDuckGo when Google fails you.

★☆☆☆☆2023-07-04
Martin Georgiev

Changing default search with no option to set it back is a no-no.

★☆☆☆☆2023-07-04
Stéphane Busso

Why is this overriding the default search without asking? I installed the extension as it was required for other things not to take over my browser search.

★☆☆☆☆2023-04-18

I like this extension a lot for its blocking capabilities but I DON'T like that it forces me to use ddg search engine from the address bar without the option to change it!

This DuckDuckGo extension blocks genuine sites like my.cigna.com that caters to a lot of people for their health insurance information. Multiple critical assets like "/public/digital-experience/js/common.js" are blocked unnecessarily and if it is blocked functionality of the website is affected. There is no customer support option to relay these concerns.

★☆☆☆☆2023-03-14

forced to use ddg as search engine, no way to cancel it except off the extention. what a suck way .

Censored search engines and always inaccurate results.

★☆☆☆☆2023-02-23

Forces to use the DuckDuckGo search engine. I just want the email settings and not the search engine. Until this is fixed, the extension is pretty much useless to me, hence the 1-star review.

★☆☆☆☆2023-02-16

Wanted to use email protection from DuckDuckGo, but the extension forces me to also use their search engine. I only want the email protection, not the search engine function, but can't get one without the other... so uninstalling the extension and looking for another email protection provider...

DuckDuckGo isn't a good name, how about named DuckDuckbing. I don't see any different from Bing. All you got is preventing Google track. And forces you to set DuckDuckGo as default browser. How dare you!!!

★☆☆☆☆2023-01-03

After further research I see that DDG sold out its users to microsoft.

★☆☆☆☆2022-09-13
Just Ask

you have sold us out, DuckDuckGo. Every "free" projects starts as "do no evil" and eventually turns into a commercial enterprise selling user data for profit. Exactly what happened here too.

★☆☆☆☆2022-09-01

I will uninstall this extension mainly because it forces me to use DDG as a default search engine. That's annoying AF. Google is waaaaaay more accurate!

★☆☆☆☆2022-08-30
James Gibbins

I support DuckDuckGo and would love to use the email feature. However, I also support the planet, and want to use Ecosia as much search engine. With this extension enabled, you are forced to have DDG as your default search engine.

★☆☆☆☆2022-08-28
Michael

There's absolutely no reason to require a web browser extension for a "private email" feature. Firefox Relay does the same thing and works without an extension - simply sign up on their website, generate a new email, copy to clipboard. Simple as that. The PR around this announcement and their pathetic attempts to try to justify the extension requirement smell of such BS. This is such a scummy move that has made me lose my trust in DuckDuckGo.

★☆☆☆☆2022-08-25

Force installed by using DDG Email.

Setting the default search engine without my agreement, whtn i just re-enabled your extensions after several months of not using it isn't nice. I just hate when extensions do that. That's the way you lose the users

Used to be a great search site until they sold our data to the big corporations... bye bye Duckie.

★☆☆☆☆2022-06-16

Duckduckgo is supposed to be anti-censorship and pro-privacy. Also Duckduckgo: lets censor things not relating to our political beliefs and sell your private information! Duckduckgo will censor results based on political motives. Duckduckgo will sell your private data. What they claim is a lie, don't use this extension.

★☆☆☆☆2022-06-02

Censors search results. Don't trust any company that censors. Say no to censorship.

DDG has decided to purge all independent medica outlets and replace them with "trusted" mainstream media outlets... Gabriel Weinberg hope you got paid enough for DDG to crash and burn.. Going to switch to T U S K. At least there i have the right to figure out on my own what is to be "trusted"

★☆☆☆☆2022-04-15
Andrew Whittaker

DuckDuckGo has decided that they have the right to declare what is and isn't factual and tell me which news sites I can read from. I started using this service to avoid giving my data to companies that hate me and wish to control my life. And you have joined them. If you don't die a hero, you live long enough to become the villain. Time to use something else.

★☆☆☆☆2022-04-15

They sold out and decided to become yet another arm of authoritarian propaganda.

★☆☆☆☆2022-04-13

Used to love it, now I hate it. No more privacy, only manipulated search results. They sold out on you. Moving over to Brave Browser Search, hopefully they will maintain their integrity. Shame on you DuckDuckGo. Gone the same way as Google once they removed their 'do no evil' motto.
