No effect on NYTimes.com. 3 videos on page one, 3/5/2026, ran as they pleased despite "Video Blocker Video blocking is enabled [NYTimts.com]. Videos on this domain are blocked". Yet they run just fine. The example shown in the description of the NYTimes.com being blocked never occurred on my pc. Reboot and restart had no effect. Former apps dev mgr. Looks like Chrome and/or NYTimes.com have the upper hand here. Did stop videos with double click on video which 1. opened audio, and 2. paused video. This method needs to be executed on each individual video. As Network Magazine cover on the advent of NT 3.51 stated of NT: " New Technology Nice Try Next Time"
I was hoping it would block advertisements that have constantly moving video embedded in them (the kind you can't turn off on the page by clicking "X" or pause, but it does not work, or at least it did not work on the page I tried it on.
Only works on initial page load. will not block auto load of following video
made sites with no video load 3x slower.
Not working for me. would give zero stars if I could.
Doesn't work.
New York Times -- This extension does not stop auto-playing videos on nytimes.com :-(
No. Its not working with any site
Yeah, doesn't even try...
LITERALLY the first page I loaded the video automatically started playing. This extension is trash.
Tested with Epic Store web and it doesn't work - autoplay worked as (they) intended, but with a weird banner over it. Uninstalled.
does not block YT
Simply doesn't work, at all. Are you sure this is supposed to work with chrome? If it can't stop ABC new's ubiquitous, irritating, news clips it is not really a video blocker.
It worked well at first but after a bit it just started blocking...everything except the home page.
Didn't work for me in 2021 on Yahoo News.
Stopped nothing. Went to NFL.com and all the videos continued to autoplay in spite of enabling Video Blocker for that site.
when I right click on a video the option to block does not show up
wasted my precious time
Didnt work to block videos on you tube.
Did not work at all for the sites I did not want to block.
Can't find any way to block specific youtube channels, only the youtube domain.
Useless. Does nothing.
It do not works!!!
PDF blocking and no settings.
Causes some CNN tabs to continually increase their memory usage until they crash. Example: http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/13/politics/neil-gorsuch-supreme-court-nomination/index.html
its delete video window - not block autoplay, ddelete window. Whitelist doesnt work
It not only stops and blocks it from autoplay it makes it almost impossible to see what the video even is. You get a semi transparent message saying that it is blocked and if you wanted to watch it you had to click on it to watch it. So my problem is that if I can't clearly see the video how am I going to know if I want to click to watch it???
Doesn't work on the first site I tried it on (mlb.com). It did work on some others.
Actually works, but prevents seeing what the video is, which is a big downside. Uninstalling.
https://store.epicgames.com/ the store games pages have videos which are not played but it is being buffered
I installed this to specifically block Amazon's "influencer" annoying videos. It didn't work. I was still annoyed. Removed. But thanks for trying.
Covers the video with a slate but actually still playing in the background. haha.
Didn't work. I read Newsweek stories via MSN on my PC and they have a video that pops up in the lower right corner of every page you navigate to. It is so annoying, and is the main reason I tried this extension. So sad. :-(
Instagram has a problem downloading videos and increasing internet usage
It blocks very well, no issue there. BUT, it slows down Chrome like hell....... For so long I thought it was just Chrome, when in fact it was this extension...... I had to uninstall it. But if you fix it, I'll be glad to install it again. So please fix the issue! PS: Remove the rainbow icon image overlay from videos, it's ugly. Only keep the top one that says "blocked". That one is enough.
Pretty good app, It works well, but has been ruined with latest update. Covering entire image with thumbnails is very annoying. You used to be able to see a still of the video and were able to decide if it was worth watching. Now the image is nearly completely obscured by thumbnails of the lousy extension logo. Looking for something less intrusive.
I came over to this after the autoplay blocker plugin got nuked by chrome's recent policy change. I only tested this on a few sites and it mostly seems to be working, but sometimes it doesn't. For example on shopify's homepage the large video that plays in the background gets blocked for a split second then it starts playing again. The plugin needs to be way more agressive, like spam .pause() for all video tags every second after page load if needed to make sure videos get blocked. I agree with the others on the text that is being overlaid on the video being way too agressive, it is almost as distracting as having the moving content of a video on a page. Plus on portrait mode videos the text goes out of bounds. I would rather not see anything, just the poster image, or the 1st frame of the video or a dark grey box then to be notified that there's a video that got blocked. I also appreciate hungarian translation, but I would rather go with english text/ui, but I didn't see any options to change that.
Finally, a video blocker for Chrome that actually seems to work in AD 2025 on all Web sites (I hope). The only serious flaw is that every blocked video window is completely obscured by a notice that states "Blocked with Video Blocker". I would much rather see the video "thumbnail" unobscured, so that I can decide if I want to play it without actually playing it. PS Damn Google for its hateful policy that makes this extension necessary!
Seems to work, but I find the image that it superimposes over videos to be annoying. Would be better IMHO if it just put a little icon in a lower corner perhaps?
Blocks most videos but not all - example of one video it didn't block - https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/how-to-dig-for-music-without-spotify/
As others have mentioned, it does not always work -- seems like "msn.com" videos always play. But since Chrome is disallowing more and more of the older extensions, this one is better than nothing
Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. It's better that nothing after several blockers got disabled with the recent Chrome update but I'm still hoping for a better solution
It does work, unlike many others, however you get their imagery and sometimes a transparent image of what it blocked. I find it kind of cute, but that wasn't what I was going for. "Nomovdo" is an effective extension.
Works well on most sites, but the site I specifically need this to work on, it doesn't work - https://www.independent.co.uk/
Used to be pretty good. In some cases, was hard to find where to click to allow the video where a site had a big video background, but that was only minor. However, recently, many of the videos on CNN.com autoplay despite this extension being active. Pretty obnoxious when you aren't expecting video and audio to kick in and you get blasted by both. Behavior seems to have changed in the past few days.
Slowed down some sites, including Reddit- entering text became jerky and laggy. Disabling this plugin fixed the problem. Overall made the browser feel unstable and less responsive. Unfortunate because the advertised features work fine.
I've been running this for about a year and totally 5-star happy with it, but then facebook pushed their new layout and it stopped working on facebook. It still blocks the videos; you just can't release the block when you actually do want to watch one. Better than not stopping them, but the whole idea is to be able to choose which ones I want to watch and when, rather than having the platform decide. If it has to be all-or-nothing, I'll stick with nothing, but I'm hoping the next version has a fix for whatever shenanigans facebook is pulling.
It works for some things, but it seems to maybe not be aware of country domain extensions. For example, on stan.com.au, it offers to whitelist 'com.au' instead of 'stan.com.au'.
It works... But it doesn't cut the streaming. I see the CNN video blocked, that's great, but heavy data is still pumped from my phone [ active video buffer ]. Is there a way to cut *all* streaming from a page, and allow the user to click somewhere to allow the streaming to start? That would be awesome.
Would be great if it prevented the downloading of the video data. Videos do not play but the data is still downloaded. Therefore not saving data waste.
