Description

# Description Blocks unwanted media autoplay on websites, with per-site permission control. ## Note This extension is compatible with all Chromium based browsers such as: Brave, Chrome, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, etc. Some browsers such as such as [Brave](https://brave.com), [Edge](https://www.microsoft.com/edge), [Vivaldi](https://vivaldi.com), or [Firefox](https://www.firefox.com) already have proper browser based autoplay blocking support. Just enable the browser's built-in autoplay blocking feature in the settings. ## Roadmap Focus on improving website handling (such as instagram, tiktok, threads, youtube, etc.) ## Release Notes Report issues at <https://github.com/kenijo/AutoplayStopperMV3/issues> Version 2025.11.24 - Change the UI from 2 buttons to 3 way switch to display "default" behavior - Improve behavior and icon status tracking across tabs and popup/option pages - Switch from whitelist to permission control (per-site permission: Default, Allow, Block) - Add option to choose default global behavior (Always Allow, Always Block) - Improved domain validation - Rework UI for better readability and consistency - Update icons to match the status of the extension - Automatically sync settings across devices - Update core logic for improved performances - Add option to enable debug logging Version 2025.09.26 - Sync the global status button color with the extension status - Restore previous core blocking code that was mistakenly released and would not work on many websites anymore Version 2025.09.25 - Change the extension button behavior from turn the extension ON/OFF to showing up a popup menu that allows enabling/disabling the extension, adding the current site to the whitelist, and opening the options page. - The extension button icon matches the status of the extension (on, off, disabled) Version 2025.09.24 - Add configuration export/import as JSON - Cleanup the options page UI Version 2025.09.17 - Add on option page to whitelist domains. - Disabled any reference to muting videos to respect the original website intended behavior and to avoid any confusion. Version 2025.08.20 - Set video mute to false by default so that when a user plays a video, the sound comes on. Version 2025.08.19 - Provide much stricter blocking of autoplay across all websites (including msn.com and others) Version 2025.08.18 (2.0) - Rewrite extension to be stricter and cover a wider range of websites - Add the ability to turn the extension ON/OFF from the toolbar Version 2025.08.04 (1.1) - Initial release

Does not work for me. Windows 11 and Chrome, both most current version. Videos start playing as soon as the page loads. Had high hopes.

Does not appear to stop DailyMotion from auto-advancing to the next video.

Every time any interaction happens on a website the plugin starts videos, even if the interaction has nothing to do with the video element. I check the console and it says "[AutoplayStopper] User interaction → media allowed". Dude, just keep them stopped until I explicitly click on the video element itself and remove the autoplay attribute altogether! This isn't why I downloaded the plugin.

I tried this on Youtube but it wont stop autoplays, it just plays by itself so idk how it works on all websites when it wont stop on youtube. Maybe other sites it might work i guess

Stops autoplay as advertised however the extension seems to break when you change tabs and come back, videos start autoplaying again.

It doesn't really work well. It would stop autoplay on a few sites, then I realized when I went to pause a video the volume icon showed the video was muted even though sound played, I hit the volume icon to see if it would mute but I had to hit it again to mute. Not the best but not the worst, I didn't notice any sites that it broke or make functions unusable but it doesn't have the functionality I hoped

Sort of works. It blocks autoplay on some sites, but not others. On some it blocks audio from autoplay videos, but not the video. The developer has responded to feedback, including adding a whitelist, which was critical for me to be able to use it. But some of the more video heavy sites, including ESPN and MLB, override the blocker and either play video, audio, or both even when this extension is active. Sometimes it doesn't stop the video right away, so it starts, but gets it blocked after a few seconds. But those few seconds video and audio can play, which can be annoying when this happens every few minutes, especially when you're watching a movie or streaming on another site.

Can't blame the developer. There are only certain amount of filters they can add to the extension in MV3. This is a bad extension format. For now, switch to Firefox assuming you can find a comparable extension. The truth is you probably won't and MV3 might affect FF too in the future. Your best bet is to use an old fork of Chrome or a Chromium based browser.
