Shocking extension. Often won't connect. Is clunky. Worst password program I've ever used
Absolute garbage. Trying to install, and I get stuck in an endless loop of setting a primary password, copying the recovery code, getting an email with the verification code, entering it, and then being forced to start the entire process all over again. After the fourth try, I gave up.
Extension doesn't work now. Had to delete and reinstall and now it wants me to "set" a Master password, apparently the current password no longer meets security requirements, even though its more that 12 characters and still active on my other devices that work fine? Contacted customer support and they said to just change it and it wont affect the other devices. Why not be clear and advise customers how to get over the glitch, rather than making them do work arounds?
Extension is useless. Spent HOURS in chat and email troubleshooting. No answers. Endless "attempts". Why don't they just fix it or admit it won't work instead of wasting my time. Does work on phone, but you can't export your data. I want a complete refund and comp for my time.
This no longer works on Chrome. I thought I had to log into Express VPN first, which is something I do not use nearly as often, but even doing that did not get ExpressKeys working.
It does not work on any browser on pc anymore. I've been told by support several times that they can do nothing but report it. Nothing will happen. I've cancelled renewal on my membership and will switch to someone else.
Totally unacceptable that the chrome extension is not working. Spoke to customer service. We understand there's an issue blah blah blah. I pay for this product. It's not working. I'm not happy at all. This extension is a complete failure. I am so unhappy with the failure of this password manager that I have now cancelled my subscription with them for all services. the consistent failure to work leaves me unable to access my passwords for sites I use regularly. It has now started to malfunction on my telephone. I wish i'd never heard of or used this total P.O.S!!!
Maybe fix the buggy extension... NOW it wont even open... NICE
No longer working on any Chrome-based browser. Only works on my phone at this point. Useless.
A follow-up to this review. Still incredibly unhappy with this mess. Never a word from support, nobody to talk to, no answer from anybody, do they even care? I see a multitude of this same complaint. Lesson from this story: DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. So sad to report this as I considered this a great product until now. Not happy at all. I depend on Password Manager, everything is in there. Now, I click on the extension and nothing happens. I did all the things you should. Removed the extension. Reinstalled the extension. Contacted support that told me to do all of the things that I already did, after telling me to "take a picture of it". Not sure what that even means now since it doesn't even work. I'm dead in the water. I've been happy with this product until now, but this lack of support is very bad for a critical product. I'm now told they will look into it and send me an email. Not helpful.

Everytime you shut down the entire program (VPN included) disappears. Express VPN is a total waste of money.

Very nice when it works. BUT... It sometimes stops working without any reason (no change to the machine or software used, for example). It just stops working. Support is totally useless. Front-line support (the one in teh chat) doesn't have a clue and made me waste my time (several hours in total) for zero results. I then received an email telling me that the case had been closed, without stating why. And Keys still isn't working. The help desk deserves a "zero star".
Can't view saved passwords once they've been entered or created, you just have to hope that the extension works when scripted and enters your passwords for you.
Very glitchy. Tries to start a new account instead of remembering existing account. Needs to be activated on each reboot.
06/11/25 - Installs fine, but nothing happens when I click the extension icon. Not even an error code. Just nothing. Contacted support and while the man was helpful and fast, he could not resolve the issue and noted they'd get back to me if they find a solution. So for now, I guess it just doesn't work, at all. I feel like I should get a portion of the money I paid back, though, since Keys is part of the product and it just doesn't work, and there's no solution either.
Clumsy, not intuitive, does a poor job if importing passwords. Does not work well at all. Changed to Google Password Manager - not great but better.
I've been an Express VPN subscriber for a long time; it's a great VPN. Lately, I've been checking out password managers, as my wife and I have probably 200 passwords for every imaginable website: financial accounts, medical patient portals, forums, professional sites, etc. etc. We use about 5 passwords for all of these sites; it's the only way to manage them. But after reading these recent reviews, I won't be using ExpressVPN Keys. In fact, now I'm thinking about going to another VPN, as a company's quality in one product is usually reflected in its other products. This 2.4 rating just took me totally by suprise. Sorry.

I can't create an account. I've been trying to chat online since they proudly say they are available 24/7, guess what? Not true. The 'Chat With Us' call to action goes nowhere. I tried to send a message via the 'Contact US' button on the 'Can't create an account' pop up window. Guess what, it does not work. I had to search throughout the website to find another link that reopened a previous conversation that I add, and I asked another question, it's been 30mn and nobody answered. I consider myself a tech savvy person and all their instructions are pretty misleading and complicated whereas it does not need to be. I give them a couple of days before cancelling.
using Express VPN since more than 5 years, but now i have tried the Password Manager ExpressVPN Keys. I am sad to see that a successfull company puts out such a poor product. There are many competent Password Managers out there, did anybody check them out before you published yours ? Very disappointed
Just renewed my subscription to ExpressVPN and decided to use Keys instead of Chrome PW Manager. I'm gobsmacked that there is no autofill facility - who doesn't offer that these days? I would not recommend this option to any new ExpressVPN user. To ExpressVPN - do better - this option is below par!
They've removed the autofill feature which is very inconvenient for workflow. I will not be renewing, I pay too much money to have this app for it not to do a simple task anymore. I'm sure tons of users will feel the same.
I am very disappointed. I have been using Express Keys for about a year and have had no problems. All of sudden when I started my computer this morning Express Keys does not display the red Key icon in the login fields for any website as it should. Therefore I can not use the Keys passwords. I can unlock the passwords from the extension key but the login of ID and PW portion does not work. I spoke online with tech support via chat and they were of no help. Express Keys at this point is completely useless to me. It does not work in Edge or Chrome anymore. And I made sure and Edge and Chrome's password managers were turned off and have never used them either.

ExpressVPN is supposed to be the best, yet it sucks. All this complicated garbage with "primary passowrd," which I have no clue what it is, and who made it for me? So frustrating, I want my money back.

Everytime ExpressVPN gets updated, ExpressVPN Keys extension stops working! Sometimes uninstalling both Keys extension and ExpressVPN and then re-installing both fixes the problem. Sometimes not... So frustrating!! Can't the software engineers fix this problem? This has been going on for at least the past 10 months, since November 2023.)

They just had a server issue as of 8/22/24. I can't even log into my ExpressVPN Keys account as of now. It is having me attempt to setup a new account instead, which scares me deep to the core as I may have lost all of my passwords and data that I spent almost two months meticulosity setting up. Their sign up and log in process for ExpressVPN Keys is confusing and not UX friendly. They certainly should go back to the drawing board with this software product in the future as it's almost unusable from the start and is lacking features that other password managers already have implemented for the expensive price point that ExpressVPN is asking for. For anyone reading this, keep a secure backup somewhere of all your passwords for future reference. I was going to do this soon as I was almost finished setting up all my accounts. However, now I am faced with this issue of literally not being able to sign into any of my accounts due to their unreliable server issues. Personally speaking, look else where for your password manager and VPN needs if possible as their product is unreliable and the security is questionable at best considering it isn't open source code or stable.
Awful. As with everyone else, I can't activate it. Says my password is wrong (irony), if that is the case then why am I using Express VPN at this very moment. BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD with your product.

Others are right - there's absolutely no easy way to set this up. The auto extraction/importation of existing passwords through other password managers doesn't work. The instructions aren't accurate to what appears in the locations it directs you to for manual input. I'm fairly computer fluent and there's a lot in this process that doesn't make sense and isn't straightforward. Don't bother wasting your time with this, you'll only end up frustrated to the point of anger and you'll have wasted hours and have gotten nowhere. It's worthless.

Complete and total turd. I don't even remember setting up Keys but I'm supposed to "remember" an initial set up code now needed to access all my passwords? I'm supposed to remember a password for a system that "remembers" passwords? I have no way of getting to them unless I reset my Keys password which deletes all my passwords. Is this an example of irony?
Don't signup for Keys if you're living in the UAE as the app and chrome extension will not work unless you're connected to VPN in a different location. It's very frustrating to see a global and reputable company like ExpressVPN not solving such basic challenges and not keeping it's services up to industry standard features. ExpressVPN not only will not work on Chrome or the iOS app without VPN connection but also doesn't offer the ability to add or update new login information for website or apps, not to mention the lack of organizing your login info into separate folders to make your life easier.
I would give ZERO if I could. I have been using KEYS for more than a year. I have many saved passwords. For two days now, when I try to access KEYS, I get directed to sign up for a KEYS account. There is nowhere to log in to my current KEYS. I have chatted THREE times with support. Noel just sits there and doesn't respond and Casper couldn't find my account even though he had my name, email, credit card and account ID number. I have deleted and reinstalled, disabled and enabled, turned the computer off and on. I STILL can't access KEYS. If I try to create a new KEYS account, I get a message that I am unable to do so. I give up. I will be closing my VPN account entirely.
THE WORS TECHNICAL SUPPORT. THEY WILL BE THE DEATH OF EXPRESSVPN & AirCOVE.... For a hardware and software program that works great. Only ONCE in the many years with ExpressVPN have I ever had luck with support. I have WASTED my time online with terrible Chat Support, they repeat my questions with dumb answers that lead no-where. It is as if i am being Ghosted by a person with no training. Email Tech support is equally as bad with answer 3-5 days old. It as if some smart company built AirCove and ExpressVPN software and leased it out a company that has no qualified expert support. Customers only hope is ExpressVPN is bought out by a more serious company. Express VPN tech support is equally as bad 1Password. And I will probably now get told to contact the same Support team We are complaining about. READ THE REVIEWS. * It's now 15 days later and I am still having the same dumb circles around ridiculous email replies. My belief it cannot be a Human. It is dumb computer generated answers. I get better help from OffShore. LEARN FROM AMAZON SUPPORT.
I'm constantly have problems with opening my VPN, it frustrates me so much. I call support and all I get is questions, it's as if I'm solving it for them. All the questions and answers are on my previous support records .. why don't they read them and stop wasting more of my time!!!
