was genuinely excited when I first installed the Compose AI extension. As someone who writes a lot, an AI-powered writing tool sounded like a dream come true. For the first few days of the free trial, it was fantastic! The suggestions were helpful, the autocomplete was surprisingly good, and it genuinely felt like it could boost my productivity. I was ready to integrate it fully into my workflow and even recommend it to colleagues. However, my enthusiasm quickly evaporated the moment the "free trial" ended and I was hit with a demand for payment. This is incredibly frustrating and misleading. The way it's presented, you almost get the impression it's a free tool with optional premium features, but no, it's a full-on subscription service after a very limited trial period. I understand that developers need to be compensated for their work, but the pricing model feels predatory after luring users in with a seemingly full-featured free experience. For an extension that fundamentally changes its core functionality to a paid model after a short trial, a 1-star rating is warranted. It's a bait-and-switch tactic that leaves a sour taste. If you're looking for a genuinely free AI writing assistant, keep looking. This isn't it.
It doesn't work for me. It keeps showing an error: 'Unable to download the model. Toggle to try again.'
I am extremely disappointed with ComposeAI. They have billed me for two years without my consent, despite the fact that I found the service useless and uninstalled it after only two weeks. They sent a renewal notification to an old email address that I never check, which is a sneaky way to avoid proper notification. I was completely unaware that I was signed up for their service and never authorized these charges. My subscription was renewed in March, and I requested to cancel it in May when I discovered the charge. Despite my request, ComposeAI refused to cancel the subscription, even though I have no intention of using it for the next year and do not have it installed. They didn't even offer to refund a prorated rate, which is highly unprofessional. Since I uninstalled it, after using it for a couple of weeks, I thought I was done with being charged for it. When I disputed the charge for the second year with my credit card company, ComposeAI obstructed the process, even though their representative initially promised to look into the issue. It's clear they had no intention of resolving it fairly. To make matters worse, they exploited a loophole using my Google Workspace credit card information to automatically renew my subscription without my explicit consent. This practice is fraudulent and highly unethical. Their product is utterly useless, and their business practices are nothing short of thievery. ComposeAI is taking advantage of customers by charging them without proper authorization and then making it nearly impossible to get a refund. Stay away from this service - they are thugs stealing people's money.
Free version extremely limited. The premium versions are too expensive.
Compose.ai's extension, as of 12/27/2023, is pegging my CPU to near-100% on a 13th gen i9 with 24 cores/32 threads. That's absolutely bonkers. I dunno WHAT this is doing (I assume scanning every single word on every single page into infinity?) but it's getting thrown into some kind of infinite loop. I cannot use this. I disabled autocomplete/suggestions and other options, but it doesn't fix the CPU hogging issue. I noticed my fans spinning up and my processor heating up - and sure enough, this one chrome extension was drawing 200 watts of power from the wall. That can't be right, and all I had to do was uninstall it. Please fix whatever this is, because the extension looks pretty cool. Please make the free version have more uses available for home/personal users. 25 autocompletes and 2500 words a month would be far more reasonable and let me use it most days, assuming the bugs are fixed.
this is ridiculus, just selling gpt api, can't believe this bad company makes yc believe in investing in them.
they only monetize chat GPT, it's really not worth it, the developer is very greedy
Not sure what's the issue, but the extension keeps sending regular requests to https://events.launchdarkly.com/events/bulk/62913038bb88120c8d0102a7 and similar URL's in very very short timeframes. I don't like this tracking. Had to uninstall.
So disappointing... I was really keen to try it and found it really beneficial to begin with; I even decided to sign up for premium at the cost of £95 for the year. The money was withdrawn from my account and yet I was still being prompted to sign up for premium, and wasn't able to use the extension. When I tried to contact Compose AI for help with the issue, they responded with very little information and then stopped responding for 5 DAYS. There is so much potential with this software but i'm wildly disappointed with the experience. Hopefully they can sort it out.
time waste
DONT BUY IT!!! Once you buy it there is apparently no way to cancel it. I tried to cancel and sent them several emails about it. There is no person who replies, it's just the AI. The company wouldn't stop charging me so I ended up having to report them and block them from my card.
Very disappointed! I canceled my subscription after two weeks...
not working even minorly
I liked it BUT THEN THEY PUT THE ENTIRE THING UNDER A PAYWALL WHY WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING EAWC34Q78JWNMMMMMMMMMMMMMM378284744444444444444444444
Collect a load of data, which sometimes generates errors and if you block those data it is trying to send them every second generating a lot of requests and errors
Collects all kinds of PII, users beware.
Using the trial or free version with 15000 words/month is very less. :(
15000 word limit :(
unintuitive
The app is great, very convenient. BUT there is a huge memory issue.. I noticed a huge drop in memory usage of Chrome when I turned off this extension. Please work on it and I will seriously consider buying the premium version!
Not sure where to start.. I have bitten the bullet and subscribed to premium plan, but I have to say that it is very unimpressive extension. For the autocomplete feature, its slow and not very useful. I miss the old version of the extension, it was much better. Fast responses and smart suggestions, but since it has been transformed into an all in one ai extension, it has gotten worse, slower responses and less intelligent suggestions. Secondly, the other ai features are also very underwhelming. Most of the time, ai suggestions are either general text with tone not compatible with the previous text of it give entirely unrelated text. When I ask it to continue writing, it does not give me any useful text. Also, the ai chat sidebar is terrible. it is using ChatGPT 3.5 turbo, which is the lowest ai OpenAI model and the 25000 words given, this would finish in a day or two if I used it as I use ChatGPT. I think this needs serious work to be a useful extension, especially with the subscription price they are asking for. I don't find it as something I would use to improve my productivity, since I can get miles ahead better quality by using ChatGPT directly.
Unreasonable pricing. Maybe this could have made sense over a year ago, but with the plethora of AI tools available in 2024 this is very expensive. The text auocomplete feature seems useful, as for the rest of general AI functionality (rephrasing, composing .. etc) there are tons of alternatives,or using ChatGPT directly.
Installed and immediately shot my CPU usage up to 100% on every core. With no usage! I couldn't even start using it
please update regularly, and move beyond yes and no in gmail...and also add better improvements
Pricing is ridiculous. The free version only has 1000 words per month... just one reply consumed almost 200 words and wasn't suitable to be used. Basically you need to pay between $9-$50 USD per month if you want it to be functional.
Generally unhelpful suggestions, rarely worked when I wanted it to (not integrated with most sites i guess?). Causes Gmail to hang and become unresponsive, which felt a little phishy... Uninstalled and suddenly Gmail worked again.
Supports close to no websites "for technical reasons". A universal text-generating AI should help... universally. This does not deliver what's on the box.
Only in English ....
Great idea but Autocomplete didn't work for me on Chrome Gmail. Tried lots of ways to get it to work but this part just wouldn't work. Other functions worked but they aren't what I need...
The extension isn't working, no popup appears after typing "//"
Experienced some glitchy issues. For example, I removed the extension but it was still showing up in my email and when I tried to click out of the popup windows they wouldn't go away. I also thought the personalization wasn't as advanced as competitor tools.
It's very interesting, but the privacy terms are beyond what I can agree with. To be fair, they are very clear about the terms, but still, it's too much to ask. Probably any AI of this kind will need to ask for so much data access, but it means to me I am not okay to use such a tool.
This plugin is pretty good, but I've recently been using another free plugin that's also excellent, and I highly recommend it to everyone; it's called Clico.
Compose AI is relatively good, but I just discovered another extension that fits me better than this. It's called Clico and it basically covers every use case that I used to do with Compose AI. Highly recommend everyone to give Clico a try:)
for writing tools, I recommend TinaMind's Wiseinks.
OK... I know, I've been using this extension for a pretty long time now. But there's just one thing. Literally, just. one thing. one. and that's that when you tell it to fricking NOT say it. It says it. It's like it's hard-coded into the extension, and this is why I'm screwed almost 60% of the time. That's why I'm rating this extension 3 stars.. The concept is wonderful! It IS dead simple! but i just hate the fact that the prompt system is really.. really... Dumb.
Latest update is not good as the previous version. Previous version was very user friendly and fast to get more suggestions, etc.
The extension was working well before the latest update, but in the latest update, the UI is too difficult to understand, and the features of the previous version are also gone, disappeared.... Literally, the latest update is truly annoying!
Please cancel my subscription and issue refund. Its way too costly and cost beneit analysis does not justify
not working in chrome
It's emails are superfluous at best and exhausting at worst
it can be a useful tool but the splashscreen spam is frustrating. it takes up portions of the page with no exit button and jumps around the window. doesn't integrate well with portals that have built in email messaging. I.e salesforce. works fine in office online.
Collects way too much information https://www.loom.com/i/6d4509715b244a6fae158bdf95c1a0fe
Compose is a game changer! Being a blogger, I have to write a lot and this tool gets me. Compose makes my job so much easier, and allows me to be more productive. I've tried a lot of extensions and there is nothing as good as Compose!
Compose AI is indeed a great extension as it saves a lot of time and is a best extension for a person who wants to improve his/her skills of writing.
This extension is very nice as it saves so much time.
This extension is good! It has completely changed the way I write emails and has saved me so much time. I would highly recommend it to anyone who struggles with writing or just wants to save time.
It's quite a helpful tool. It's easy to use and provides great auto-complete suggestions.
Very little of the suggested completions were applicable so I found it actually slowed me down
