Description

This delightful fish is a Common Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris). In my decades studying aquatic organisms, I've come to deeply admire their fascinating lives and the complex symbiotic relationship they share with sea anemones. Their bright orange bodies with bold white stripes outlined in black make them one of the most recognizable fish in the ocean. Clownfish have a special immunity to the sting of their host anemone, a remarkable adaptation that allows them to live within its stinging tentacles. This provides them with a safe, protected home in return for which they clean the anemone and may even help attract food. This unique cohabitation is a perfect example of a mutualistic relationship in the marine world.
