Doesn't work

There is not a clear explanation of what this does. I installed it and tried everything but it does not open links in a background tab as I desired.

Does not work or no longer working. Restarted Chrome, unistalled/reinstalled the extension - nothing.

Not working anymore, and no alternatives that I could find. Sad.

Tried to get BullX to load in background tabs. It didn't work. Not sure if it has anything to do with manifest 3. Bummer.

This doesn't work at all like it claims. I don't know why people keep voting it high stars while saying it doesn't work.

When I added this extension some sites got pop under ads, when I removed the extension they stopped.

It does what it says, BUT it also changes all your search results to ads. Conclusion, it is good for reducing new tabs opening in the foreground in about the same way that getting visited by an arsonist is good for solving the problem of a creaking floor.

Used to be good. Now requests access to data on all websites. Very suspicious!

The newest update (2.1.1) added the RocketTab Adware. This is garbage. Worked perfectly prior to this.

The newest update (2.1.1) added the RocketTab Adware. Uninstall this extension now. To go back to a previous version, go to https://crx.dam.io/source/crxviewer.html?crx=https://crx.dam.io/files/gidlfommnbibbmegmgajdbikelkdcmcl/2.1.0.zip Download the zip and extract it. Open the folder and delete the _ in front of the _metadata folder. Go to manage extensions, check developer mode and load this in.

Doesn't work half the time. I used it with ctrl + click to open new window.

Does not work, or works but not the way it should work. Opens new links in background, but Chrome steals focus. The desired behaviour should be that link just opens in the background tab and Chrome does not steal focus.

It gets a couple of stars for at least doing what it says it does, but it feels like a sledgehammer solution to the problem.

Thank you for the January 2020 update! Edit April 2025: It hardly works anymore. Now, it will open a new tab in the foreground and might switch back to the previous tab after 0.5 to 2 seconds. sorry it does not worked on my CHROMEBOOK. May be it is releated to the website because in my case the Familysearch.org deactivate the background tab but ancestry.ca don't. I was hoping with your extension it will keep background tab of familysearch active. for example i can open 3 tab on ancestry.ca and 3 tab on familysearch and then all the background of ancestry are open and ready and only the open tab of familysearch is completely loaded after a while.

Constantly have to click icon in menu for extension to work, otherwise it gets deactivated after a few minutes.

Opens each link in anywhere between 1 and 3 new tabs. All are in background though, so have a second star :) Also, would be nice to have ability to customise/filter which tabs open (or which behaviour causes them to open) background, which open foreground.

i click a link in google reader and it opens 2 identical tabs? didn't do it before.

Not working anymore for chrome latest version

Works fine but only most of the time on many websites. One where it's easy to reproduce: Civitai.com. If I middle click on links to open them in new tabs, VERY often Chrome takes me automatically to the newly opened tab. And I constantly need to go back to the tab I was browsing. This extension worked fine for years. But it's now struggling with more recent websites :/ Thanks for coding that extension in the first place anyway. It's been so useful for so long that it's only when it doesn't work properly on the whole internet anymore that we realize how much it's a useful feature that should be there by default :/ Hope you'll fine the time, and the need to someday update your extension. Cheers ;)

not working as of today for me

Addon Force Background Tab should have the option to open background tabs also on clicked links with pressed CTRL key.

I've found a bug: If you add page to a bookmarks it gonna switch back to default tab behavior, without switching the plugin off. To fix this you need to open tab with default behavior that was set in the plugin options... Until you add some page to bookmarks again.

Nice filtering options. Sadly, this extension cannot keep up with opening a slew of new tabs all at once. It will give up and land on a random newly-opened tab. I am using a bookmarklet to open a dozen tabs at a time from selected links on a page, rapidly.

Recently the functionality changed. Links opened in new tabs are still forced into the background, which is good. However, it used to not force new blank tabs to the background. Suddenly it does now. I prefer to open new tabs (ctrl+T) and begin typing into the address bar immediately, rather than having to move to the new tab first. There are no options to adjust which tabs are forced to the background, so I will be uninstall for now.
