Description

This Chrome extension assists in managing time spent on distracting platforms like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn. These sites can be highly engaging, but completely blocking them isn’t always practical, as they also provide valuable content. The extension identifies the most attention-grabbing elements on these platforms and allows selective hiding of these sections or full blocking of the websites. Settings sync automatically via a Google account, ensuring consistency across multiple devices. Note: No browsing history is accessed, and no browsing-related data is sent or stored. Feedback is always welcome. New feature (paid): Block gambling and NSFW sites

EDIT 2: Review page looks manipulated. Only hours after posting, 6 downvotes appeared. Then three 5-star reviews, timed 1 day apart, pushed the review out of the 3 shown on the main page. It's clearly disproportionate to prior review activity here: even the spam has no downvotes. EDIT: Original review criticizing the extension's pop-up ads is at the bottom. The developer's reply has inaccuracies and misdirection; this is a response to it. If you want to see the ad yourself, go to the extension's official site (can't link it here) and add /updated after the URL. There's a character limit, so I cut unimportant parts of the review to fit this. -- 1) I said monetization is fine. My issue was the *three* unsolicited, unpredictable pop-up ads sent to me while working. 2) This developer literally endorses the book Deep Work and maintains an extension that protects against distracting content. Yet they added invasive pop-ups and quickly trivialized and mocked the first complaint about it. Why specifically pop-ups? Their intention is obvious. There's a conflict of interest, and it's incredibly insulting. 3) They deny it's an ad: they claim it's a "changelog notification" and "information for users who actually care". But, the *only* content in the changelog is a table of subscription perks and pricing. It's silly to argue ambiguity: it is a pop-up ad for a monthly subscription. Check the page yourself (top of review). 4) They claim it's not an ad because it appears every 2-3 years. ...How does that make it not an ad? 5) "2-3 years" is based on when this was a hobby side project. Despite the misleading end of their post, it's currently their full-time job. Their goal is to monetize it into their primary income. You can read this on the "About Us" page of their site. That's all fine, but doesn't it imply it'll be updated (and ads pushed) more often than every 2-3 years? This feels too convenient a claim. 6) "you never left a good rating..." Correct. No one can give feedback unless they give you a positive review first? Either way, it's an ad hominem: pointing out that I'm a jerk doesn't mean you aren't pushing unsolicited ads. --- [Original review] You know what would be really silly? If unsolicited pop-up ads are forced onto your screen, at totally arbitrary, unpredictable times... and if these distracting ads were placed there by a highly popular extension designed to help you *avoid* distractions. Yes, this puts pop-up ads on your computer now. At unpredictable times. They force taking your browser's focus. This isn't a joke. The ads are to sell a monthly subscription for premium features. The developer pushed this to every active user, and it actually is annoying. There is an attempt made at plausible deniability. The ad presents itself as an innocent "this extension just updated! whoa! look at these new features!" page, but the only content of said page is, well... details about the monthly subscription that you can now buy. Okay, I guess there's a menu bar too, which links to a page with some words meant to emotionally hook you into... oh, buying the monthly subscription. This really is not an ambiguous thing: the developer put unsolicited pop-up advertisements into this extension. You could argue that it's reasonable to try to earn income from the extension. Sure! My point isn't anything about that. It really isn't. (I mean, requiring payment in the form of a subscription is predatory but my frustration here really isn't about that.) My point is that I was doing work, and this forced itself on my screen during the middle of the sentence I was typing. Then, it happened again half an hour later. Then, it happened again the next hour. Why? Because this repeats for every Chrome user profile that you have the extension enabled on, all at unpredictable times, because that's how Chrome extension updates are deployed. Every time the developer pushes an update in the future, this will probably happen again to every user.

Nothing happens when I click Settings. I paused all filters for 5 minutes and went on an otherwise blocked site, and when the five minutes was up, nothing happened; it didn't bump me off the site or do anything at all.

As far as I know the date I'm doing this review it might be not fair for the extension. Facebook maybe updated their security for these kinda extensions. Will keep it for couple of more weeks and see if they manage to make it work again.

Please add option to hide "what's happening" section and "topics to follow" section and "you might Like" section for twitter and then I will give 5 stars.

Stopped hiding the covers, thumbnails of YouTube videos. When it worked, I was very satisfied. Or will this feature be available after the subscription now?
