This review is More about the laxity on part of google rather then developer of this epubreader extension. Extension works great. BUT when I click on the link to the product website provided by Google store it goes to a site and google browser throws a notice that says --> " www.epubread.com doesn’t support a secure connection. Attackers can see and change information you send or receive from the site. It's safest to visit this site later if you're using a public network. There is less risk from a trusted network, like your home or work Wi-Fi. You might also contact the site owner and suggest they upgrade to HTTPS SO google with your humongous size and power can you please convince the developer of this extension to use HTTPS website? Then please provide that link on your Google store. Also please automatically check all requirements when a developer submits the extension on your store. That means enforce through auto check this requirement for HTTPS link. How hard can that be? In fact also add another requirement for using a digital signature for uploading ALL extension on the google store. This is in context of the man in the middle hack done by hackers to the "Cyberhaven's security-focused extension" It is high time for Google to now follow this hopefully effective technique (digital signature)

Doesn't work all of a sudden: I get an "This file is not a valid epub" for every epub I try to open. When I uninstall it, chrome builtin epub reader works.

More difficult than EASY to use! This is not a really EASY extension. when download my ebooks or free ebooks that does not give an option to download to my computer library so it won't overload my tab. This is very hard to use and when I do dowload it down it gave me gibberish so I could not reay any of bonus or extended ebooks. Mobi is so much EASIER to use so I am not sure why you EPUB should be a replacement for Mobi when Mobi has no issue. Lost all of my extended ebooks and bonus ebooks so I am not very happy with EPUB!

It appears to suck big time - I open a local file and it just goes to downloads. so it cant even make me read good which is what its asposed to do

It keeps telling me to disable adblock in order to use it for free. I have disabled the adblock but it keeps asking for the same thing. It is no longer useful

- Stretches images on some Epubs, when other extensions aren't doing that to those same files. - Doesn't read the mouse wheel to turn pages in 2022. - I removed it at this point. Just found the EpubPup extension.

EPUB only works on my chrome when it wants to. Worst experience ever.

The UI is just painful to work with, can't scroll, small buttons, overall terrible user experience.

Can't get it to open any files, it just downloads the file even if I'm trying to open a file that is already on my hard drive

Due to this idiotic extension I lost my money I made a purchase through manning and I can use the bought product link to download only once and when I clicked my epub format ebook link all of a sudden this extesion took action and as server of this extension was busy I lost my ebook as I had only one chance to download now I lost 30 usd which is the book worth WORST EXTENSION EVER

False advertisement, doesn't open ebooks from file explorer

Reads your browsing history, reads your downloads, reads/alters your site data, janky, UI barely responds, forces you to look at 4+ pages at once (ironically I like this), no page numbers, bottom text is cutoff when Read Aloud, artwork is put in the top left corner of your screen, and artwork doesn't/can't scale.

Doesn't work, just shows gray blocks where there should be text. Lameness.

It's junk and cannot use built in dictionaries

Doesn't really work. Downloaded this to view a photo book, and it doesn't even display most of the photos, while the text is a jumbled mess. Also, doesn't even open ebooks at all unless you give it authorization to view everything you do on the web. Useless.

Only installed in order to note that this app requires excessive permissions: "read and change all data on every web page you visit" I don't care if this is chrome's broken security model, this thing where apps demand total surveillance must be brought to an end.

Sometimes it works, usually it doesn't cycling through a routine of asking if I want to save the thing I'm trying to read.

CSS styles are totally ignored. Meta information cannot be obtained. Useless.

Books look ugly. Rendered in three-column view. No ability to customize the view. The interface is clunky.

Does not open files you have downloaded unless you grant it permission to access the filesystem, which is a pain. When you open epubs from the filesystem, you can only see the front page. You can't turn the page. This is terrible and doesn't work. Don't use it.

On Download destination (for many years and in March of 2024) I was able to click "read in browser" and the book would pop up today in May It's not working at all, this sucks

Rasterized (scanned) boor rendering like I had 20/200 vision while Ebook readers in Android handle similar ebooks with no issues. Ergonomics better than those in Android phones, though (added one star for it).

The reader works, but it replaced characters with different characters (eg. " became ').

No Search. No highlighting. No adding notes. (as far as I can tell. Let me know if I haven't found them.)

Layout not readable, if hyperlinks are part of EPUB. Deleted extension.

Seems to be a nice reader, you can adjust viewing mode, colors and margin width and even has smooth scrolling with a mouse wheel, so all the essentials are here, but for me the interface breaks down when full screening the view on chrome (F11), which essentially makes this unusable. Leaves a large empty white margin on the bottom of the page where UI symbols used to be. Interface is quite jerky overall.

I find that when I click to move to the next page, some text is skipped, then if I click the back arrow, I get the page I was just looking at, but it's laid out all differently, with more text on that page. Also, as others have said, double clicking an ePub file in file explorer does not open it. It just opens chrome and puts the file in the list of downloads down the bottom of the browser window.

needs a better Ui based on Edge browser

I mean it works for what it's intended. Just wish you could make it so the toolbar and the white bar at the bottom of the screen were completely removed. Also would prefer it have an option to infinite scroll chapters rather than need to press a key to move on.
