This is such a downgrade from the last version that is now deprecated and still listed (but no longer downloadable) in the store. Because this doesn't check as thoroughly, I have to log into SI and do a single page check for all pages, not just new pages.
Version 1 would retain your settings, v2 has to be rebuilt for every use. As mentioned earlier, 2.4.7 Focus Visible and 2.4.4 Link Purpose are not being discovered in v2.
V1 was good. This version does not work well, and I don't use it because the errors do not load for me. I only see the Spinner which does not stop. I quit after 40 seconds.. I with they would go back to version 1 so I can use this again, but for now I'll pass.
I really liked v1.x but I have noticed that v2 has obvious errors and things it is not finding in pages. It is beyond the rules being refined in this version. One example that made me take notice was a page that had dark grey text on a darker grey background that was obviously a contrast fail, followed by a dark blue "Read more" link that also was an obvious fail. The extension only called out the grey on grey and didn't seem to notice the blue on grey fail in an anchor adjacent to the grey text for any issues. When manually checked the contrast was below the 4.5 ratio so failed AA and AAA contrast guidelines, possibly also AA and AAA Link Purpose. Finding these errors in the extension has shown me it is not as reliable as the previous version at finding issues. Be careful if you are using it to scan your site as it could be missing obvious fails.
This used to be my favorite checker. Happily would've given 5 stars. Now... -1 star for no more side panel. -1 star for being colossally slow to check sites. Tested several. I closed after 15 seconds of getting no details. Used to be near instantaneous results. -1 star for having to even deduct stars in the first place.
It is not friendly to web developers.
I rely on this plugin to not only point out issues, but that it's knowledgeable on best practices. However, I just found an issue in a major point of accessibility: It doesn't call out malformed alt tags. For decorative images, you should have an *empty* alt tag (<img alt="">), but the site I was working on just had *bare* alt tags (<img alt>). This was caught later on by an SEO audit, and this was always a major concern of our client. I now am unsure I can trust any of the results from Site Improve. Another issue I found was that there is no ability to provide feedback on the extension's results. Given that it's now proudly boasting it's use of AI, I think accepting user feedback is especially important.
Unfortunately version 2.0 doesn't seem to return all the same errors that my coworkers with v127 see. Specifically v2 is not returning errors about 2.4.7 Focus Visible and 2.4.4 Link Purpose on a page where my coworkers see those errors using the older version of the extension.
