Description

Dark Mode — Universal Dark Theme & Smart Reading Instantly switch any website to a comfortable dark theme. Reduce eye strain, increase focus, and enjoy reading at night with a lightweight, privacy-first extension. Why Dark Mode? Bright pages cause eye fatigue — especially at night. Dark Mode applies a carefully tuned dark color palette to websites while keeping contrast and readability. Key features: ✔Universal dark mode — works on most websites (Google, Wikipedia, YouTube and more). ✔Reading Mode — distraction-free layout (large type, soft background, width control). ✔One-click toggle & per-site settings — save preferences per domain. ✔Lightweight & fast — minimal CPU/memory impact. Privacy first — no tracking, only minimal permissions required. How it works? 1. Install → click the toolbar icon. 2. Toggle global dark mode or enable per-site. 3. Enter Reading Mode for long articles (adjust font size and margins). Who it’s for? Night readers, students, devs, people with light sensitivity. Permissions & Privacy: We only request the minimal permissions needed (e.g., content script for page styling, storage for settings). No user data is collected. Full privacy policy linked on the listing. Pro tip If a page looks off, open settings → disable images inversion or add a site-specific override. FAQ ✔Will it break websites? — Rarely; use per-site exceptions. ✔Does it slow my browser? — No — it’s optimized to be lightweight. ✔Is it free? — Core features are free. (If you have paid features, mention them here.) Install now — join thousands of users who browse more comfortably.

Already dark websites turn white

I rarely give 5 stars unless something is perfect. And by that I mean there's nothing I can think of that can be added/included to help in functionality or design. For instance, can people with a disability use this either straight out of the box, or with easy to follow instructions. I'd probably be giving this extension a 4* if everything was working OK but I can see (at least) two issues. 1: When you go to a site that defaults to it's own dark mode, this extension changes it to light mode. Perhaps it requires a name change to something more like "Mode Switcher" and remove the name on the slider. Better still, if it reads the background colour as a light colour switch the site mode, but if it's dark, leave it as is. In both instances, place the toggle slider to the correct side. 2: It doesn't work on Chrome Web Store pages! There's nothing worse for an extension than not having that extension work on the page it was installed/added from, especially when you want to test it out before leaving it enabled/installed. "chromewebstore.google.com: Can't read or change this site's data" Fix them, and I'll up your star rating by 1 for each fix, provided I don't find any more of course.

Conflicting with Google, when it´s ON it´s white, OFF it´s black....

Great extension, but not having per-tab or per-site dark-mode ability is kind of limiting - its all or nothing. If you run with multiple tabs open, and some tabs already have a native dark mode, it switches them to a wierd blue-ish white mode that isn't as glaring as a white background, but certainly isn't dark mode anymore. Its easy enough to switch it off, but then if you flip back to another tab, you have to turn it back on. Strangely doesn't see to work at all for this exact page, the chrome store reviews page. Wierd.
